Aizu Secret Base Report (June 16) — Active Chick-Rearing and Fish-Carrying Action!

Hello! This is Photostudio Ootake.

Here is our field report from the Crested Kingfisher Photography Hide on June 16th!

To my absolute horror, even though I took a massive amount of great shots during the very first session of the morning, I accidentally batch-deleted them all… *sweat*. So, the photos below are from the second session onwards!

During the first morning session, the birds were beautifully carrying fish to the left side. It looks like their chick-rearing is progressing very smoothly.

They also dove into the water to bathe right in front of the hide (at the zero-distance point) multiple times, but all those files are completely gone… It’s so frustrating that I’m already planning to head back out there tomorrow to try again! *sweat*

Later in the day, the birds perched evenly across all the main spots—Perch No. 1, No. 3, and the Zero-distance branch—and they even treated us to some spectacular hunting action!

There will undoubtedly be plenty of excellent shooting opportunities right up until the end of your session!

On another exciting note, we have recently been collaborating with OM SYSTEM! We are thrilled to announce that we will be hosting an Early Morning Crested Kingfisher Photography Workshop & Mini-Seminar on July 3rd and July 4th!

Since this event is strictly limited to a very small group, please check out the details as soon as possible.

You can check availability and sign up via the link above. It appears that the slots for July 4th filled up almost immediately…

Because of this upcoming seminar, I’ve been borrowing the OM-1 Mark II recently to gather sample shots! All the photos in this blog post were actually taken with the OM-1 Mark II. I’ll continue brushing up on its optimal settings to make sure I deliver a fantastic lecture! ^^

Since I don’t normally shoot at a continuous rate of 50 frames per second, I kept hitting a full buffer over and over again! It was a purely joyful struggle, and I headed home with a massive smile on my face. ^^;
